Dear Colleagues,
I am serving on the Standards and Guidelines Implementation Task Force.

You can access the standards at: http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/informationpower/Informat...

At the ALA Midwinter Meeting, our Task Force received input from Affiliate Assembly discussion groups and the Supervisors Section.

If you would like to share your responses to the questions below or offer general comments, I will pass on your ideas to the Task Force.

Thank you.

Best,
Judi

1. How are you disseminating the new standards in your school, district, or state?

2. What worked well in the Information Power 2 implementation?

3. What kinds of support would you like from AASL in disseminating and implementing the new standards?

Judi,
I just joined this group and see the posting was from Jan 2008. I am late to the party. Are you going to be at ALA in Anaheim or NECC in TX?

Hi, Glen.
I'll be at ALA in Anaheim. I'm co-presenting a workshop on Saturday morning and doing committee work with the Standards and Guidelines Implementation Task Force - among other things. (That's why I posted this thread - but you're the first to respond - six months later. That does not bode well for the standards or for the group or both both!)

The Culture of Collaboration group really needs a revival. Any ideas?

Thanks Judi,
Oh, I have ideas and I am energized with the amazing and yet underutilized potential of the TL community.

I wish we could connect real time prior to your presentation on Saturday. I will be leaving for Texas on Friday for NECC. Do you have a way to videoconference? I would be glad to provide you with my office number of cell phone… just let me know.

BTW: One thought on the standards and guidelines... If we need a revival, which I agree we really do, then what we need is one powerful sermon!

Hey Greg,
I don't have videoconferencing capabilities.

It's a shame that t-ls have to choose between ALA and NECC - almost every year! (Personally, I can't afford to do both so ALA has always been my choice.) I look forward to hearing about your learning there. I trust you will share.

Are you offering to do the sermon? I'll work on mine, if you work on yours.

Well, what if I told you we are going to connect from NECC to ALA? On July 1 at 7:30am, Sara is trying to figure out where we will be, but we will connect with each other while I am at NECC. If you have the time to show up, please please please do.

This connection between NECC and ALA is and example of one of the points of my three point sermon!

Surely it is worth getting up for a 7:30 a.m. NECC-ALA videoconference... I'll do my upmost to be there.

Standing by for the location,
Judi

Judy,
What is happening now with the new AASL standards? I am in an independent school, but would like to work with others in my community to see how we can be sure these standards are being implemented. Let me know if any progress has been made and what I might be able to do to help. I am trying to attend AASL in November. I wonder if there will be a session regarding this topic?
Thanks,
Jennifer

Dear Jennifer,
The Standards for the 21st-Century Learner In Action book was published and was made available for purchase beginning at Midwinter. I highly recommend it. You can buy it from the ALA Store: http://www.alastore.ala.org/detail.aspx?ID=2601

The Standards and Guidelines Implementation Task Force will hold a Summit before ALA Annual in Chicago, which will be a train-the-trainers institute, another first step in disseminating the standards. Someone will represent your AASL affiliate organization at that event.

I do hope you'll be able to attend the AASL Conference in Charlotte. It's my understanding there will be many sessions focused on the new standards.

Best,
Judi
