PYP & DP Curriculum requirements

I am relatively new to the IB curriculum needs.I would like to know as to how to improve upon the reading literacy? what new activities could be added for making the library a more interesting place?
What does the IB expect from the teacher librarian?

Monisha,

Try a number of different programs that encourage students to read. I often have direct talks with students and ask them about what they like to read and do. I then find something directly related to this and let the student know that their interests are great and the library is a place to find about them.

The IB, in my experience, expects the school to consider the library as a central place for the whole school community. I encourage you to start 'marketing' the library as the school learning center and make sure you have access (soft and hard copies) to materials direclty relevant to your UOI/DP subjects.

Thank you Scott for your valuable sugesstions.I have been busy in evolving my library for the PYP authorisation visit slated for 8th and 9th of February.I have put in the best of my efforts and now waiting patiently for the Team member's perusal.

The most important aspect of international librarianship is to introduce international literature to your staff and students. The best way to begin is to persuade at least one (or more) members of your teaching staff to work collaboratively with you on a "literature" unit. Using the "required" list will give you some suggestions for authors and titles in your region. Then think creatively; what are the aims and objectives of the unit? How encourage, inspire the students towards "international-mindedness" ? Which Web 2.0 technologies can you introduce to make the unit both fun and meaningful?

Dear Julia,
Thank you for your inputs. I have been working on those lines as suggested by you.I dont have the 2.0 web technology right now but yes my management will procure it later on.
I have labelled my entire library according to the Learner Profiles both junior and senior sections.attended all official and impromptu collaborative meetings with my fellow teachers and pyp coordinator.The PYP authorisation is on this monday and tuesday, wish me luck.

I would also ask your administrator to send you to IB Librarian Level 1 & 2 Training. That is where you will be given the materials and support to begin thinking "IB".

I also try to put up book displays that reflect each part of the IB Learner Profile. For example, "Risk-taking". I would find books in which the main character is a risk taker. Then I would put up a sign that said IB Learner Profile: Become a risk-taker....or something much more clever :)

Dear Klaudia,
Hi! Thank you for your suggestions.I have labelled my library according to the Learner Profile.
Segregated books from all series available according to the transdisciplinary themes of the UOI and taught the children to make notes in their independent research work.
Since the authorisation is absolutely now round the corner so going to the IB workshop will be done later on, i guess.when is the next ib librarian workshop scheduled?
