My name is Derrick Barnes and I am the author of one of the most popular Scholastic book series in children literature. The series is entitled RUBY & THE BOOKER BOYS (reading level 2-5 grade). There are currently four books in the series, and they are all doing extremely well all across the country!

Ruby is a stylish, intelligent, creative, and sassy African American eight year old girl that will do anything to step out of the shadows of her three ultra popular big brothers (The Booker Boys). Overall, the series is based on self, community, and family love.

I am also proactively reaching out to you to see if you'd consider ordering the books for your school/library.My calendar is open between February- June 2010. I'd love to add you to my tour schedule. It would be an honor if you would consider bringing me to your wonderful school for a presentation(s).

My Ruby and the Booker Boys presentation consist of:

* A brief, funny, and engaging introduction about author background and the Ruby series. Plus, a discussion on my writing process and how important editing is.
* Rhythmic, entertaining Powerpoint presentation introducing Ruby Booker and her family
* Reading from chapter chosen by students.
* Q & A
* Prize giveaway (posters, bookmark,etc.)
* Book signing, pictures taken

I am extremely affordable. I only charge $450 per presentation; with a duration of 45-50 minutes. Air travel and lodging are not included in the honorarium. My ideal grade levels are 1-6 grade and audience size between 50-200 students per presentation.

If you are interested, please feel free to contact me at twells75@yahoo.com or derrick@derrickbarnes.com.

PLEASE forward this email to any parent, teacher, administrator, librarian, or reading specialist that might be interested in the RUBY & THE BOOKER BOYS series.

Thank you so very much for your time. Please visit my site to find out more about me, a list of references from previous school visits, Ruby Booker and the Booker Boys, and the rest of my books.

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
