Hi - I just came across this ning, so I'm just an idea of what's here. Can't wait to get more involved. Carla

Hi, All,
I am almost done with my MLS. I should graduate in May. I am nervous about the job hunt. It has already started. I've sent out resumes but i need to send more out.

Check out our new site: pslastudents.pbwiki.com, especially if you belong to PSLA or are a new PA librarian!

Hi - I started, quite by surprise, as a middle school teacher-librarian in January after 7 years as a special education teacher. I'm in the MLS/SMS program at Queens College in NYC. I took over the library from the woman who had been the librarian since the school opened in 1956. The only technology in the room was her manual typewriter. I weeded almost 1500 books. We now have Follett Destiny and I'm in the process of barcoding and scanning the rest into our catalog. I look forward to learning from everyone here because I need to learn a lot, fast.

Welcome Deven!  I too have found myself somewhere new quite by surprise! I left my job as an elementary librarian and took a position as a MS/HS librarian.  The librarian I am taking over for was there for quite a long time, and you should have seen my face when I realized she had no computer on her desk after all this time!!! Good luck in your new position, and please post if you have any questions.  You will love Destiny, look into the MyQuest features, the kids love having their own accounts.

Thanks for the welcome. Good luck with your new position, it sounds a bit like what I walked into. I hope the library you're taking over was more organized than the one I walked into. I already love Destiny but will not be using it next year as my school will be part of a pilot program with the NYPL exploring how a union catalog with them would work. We'll be using their catalog software for at least the pilot year.

I will not hesitate to ask questions as I figure I'm likely to learn more here than I am in my MLS program.

I graduated in May with a degree in Elem. Ed, but did not get a classroom job this school year. Instead, I got hired as an extended substitute in an elementary library. I just started in November (the former librarian retired Nov. 1) and I love it! I have lots of questions, though, so I'm sure this group will be helpful!

Hi, all.  I am just finishing up my MLS with School Media Specialization at Syracuse University.  I live in Brooklyn, NY and I am currently looking for a full-time school media position.
