HI all,
I'm Annike and I work in a large private English boarding school in Nottigham. www.trentcollege.net - also has pictures of my current libraries (3) and plans for the new library which will combine ages 11-18 in one big centre. The challenge is to do this within the tradition and ethos of the school so I'll need lots of help.

Hi everyone!

I'm Jennifer. I am a first year librarian (graduated with my MLS in May '09) and work at a private religious (Muslim) PreK3-12 school in Tampa. It's a great school, and while the library is small and the previous librarian left it in a huge state of disaray, I am enjoying myself and busy getting it weeded, organized and new materials ordered before school starts on August 17. And what is even more interesting is that I am not Muslim, but I am learning alot about their religion and culture, which is just fascinating!!

Take care!
Jennifer

My name is Derrick Barnes and I am the author of one of the most popular Scholastic book series in children literature. The series is entitled RUBY & THE BOOKER BOYS (reading level 2-5 grade). There are currently four books in the series, and they are all doing extremely well all across the country!

Ruby is a stylish, intelligent, creative, and sassy African American eight year old girl that will do anything to step out of the shadows of her three ultra popular big brothers (The Booker Boys). Overall, the series is based on self, community, and family love.

I am also proactively reaching out to you to see if you'd consider ordering the books for your school/library.My calendar is open between February- June 2010. I'd love to add you to my tour schedule. It would be an honor if you would consider bringing me to your wonderful school for a presentation(s).

My Ruby and the Booker Boys presentation consist of:

* A brief, funny, and engaging introduction about author background and the Ruby series. Plus, a discussion on my writing process and how important editing is.
* Rhythmic, entertaining Powerpoint presentation introducing Ruby Booker and her family
* Reading from chapter chosen by students.
* Q & A
* Prize giveaway (posters, bookmark,etc.)
* Book signing, pictures taken

I am extremely affordable. I only charge $450 per presentation; with a duration of 45-50 minutes. Air travel and lodging are not included in the honorarium. My ideal grade levels are 1-6 grade and audience size between 50-200 students per presentation.

If you are interested, please feel free to contact me at twells75@yahoo.com or derrick@derrickbarnes.com.

PLEASE forward this email to any parent, teacher, administrator, librarian, or reading specialist that might be interested in the RUBY & THE BOOKER BOYS series.

Thank you so very much for your time. Please visit my site to find out more about me, a list of references from previous school visits, Ruby Booker and the Booker Boys, and the rest of my books.

Hi, everyone!
I am working on a Web 2.0 tools blog that I hope will be something you can use and share with others if you are affiliated with a Christian school. I am probably reaching out to "the choir" if you are members of TLNing, but I thought I would share with you anyway. Please take a look! www.kytelight.com

Hi Andy - I think your site will be helpful to students and a good model for other school librarians.  I had to Zoom Out to see the whole page in both Firefox and Win Explorer. Didn't try it in Chrome or Safari browsers.  Not sure why I didn't get a scrollbar to enable right/left scrolling to view entire page - maybe an HTML thing? Then again, perhaps it is time for me to visit the optometrist or buy some "cheaters" -

In response to Barbara E.'s request re: shared Middle/Upper School Libraries, what about "recreating" the bridge from the Middle school to the Upper school within the library? It's probably too early to start looking at furnishings, but have you heard of "Big Cozy Books"? They make really fun sturdy furniture aimed at youth collections: http://www.bigcozybooks.com/  I think older students would like this stuff as well!

Barbara, can you post your request for info as a discussion forum entry? That way, threads of info can be shared among all members.

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
