Elisabeth, thanks for getting us started here. Let's wait until a some more people join before we formally start. But anyone who's anxious to get started can go to NoveList and take a look at the first week. Becky

Hi Elizabeth and Becky,
Excited about joining the group! I am currently teaching summer school and have started my own WORD PRESS wiki to keep track of the summer readings I am doing and also to get a chance to compare PBWorks, WetPaint, Wikispaces to Wordpress that has a Edublogs for educators. I have to create some booktrailers and reviews this summer to share with my colleagues!

I am not sure where it is Becky that we begin in Novelist---can you provide alink? I am signed in and I have followed the RA links, training, etc.. Maybe I am going down the wrong webpath---can you advise?

Judibea, glad you asked. Try this. NoveList Home Page > Fine where it says Readers' Advisory on the right hand side. Under that, find where it says Improving RA Services. Under that see where it says RA Training. That's the link to click on. Let me know if that works for you. If not, we'll try something else.

Hi all,
Just invited 3 more people who posted their emails. Looking good!

I noticed that I did not find the RA training on the NoveList k-8 homepage, only on the NoveList homepage. If anyone has trouble finding it, please let me know. I started a discussion for the first exercise listed in lesson 1. It looks like one that I'll need some time to think about and work on. As others join, they can also respond as they see appropriate.

I was asked to post the url for NoveList so people can access it easily. NoveList is a subscription based data base so I'm not sure this can be accessed without signing in. But you could give this url a try. It is a popular database and I think many school and public libraries subscribe so you can also check the libraries where you have access to their databases.

If you're not able to find access, let me know and I'll see if there is a way I can help.

Hi Becky, Should we go on to the next lesson in the series? Elisabeth
Comment by Becky Schaller on July 2, 2009 at 11:08pm
Elisabeth, I've been thinking about that question also. I don't have a clear answer in my head. I have found Lesson 1 to be far more difficult than I had anticipated. I'm realizing that I didn't put out discussions for all the exercises in Lesson 1. So I will do that tonight. Part of what we're supposed to do during the first lesson is decide a baseline book for each appeal factor. I'm not sure how important that is, but I suspect it is fairly important. So I am going to suggest that we continue working on Lesson 1 while also advancing to Lesson 2. This may not be ideal, but this is all really new for me and I am just beginning to get a feel for what RA is. I am hoping that this will help us all advance in our understanding. If others have other ideas, please speak up.
Becky

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
