Have you read any titles that you think will appeal to YAs?
I read an ARC of Justin Larbalestier's Liar. There's been lots of controversy over the fact that the girl on the cover looks nothing like the main character...but the main character tell readers she not truthful right up front. I think this book will generate lots of discussion and the supernatural aspect will hook YAs.
Another one I just finished is The Chosen One by Carol Williams. A real page turner about a girl in a polgyimist community who is going to be forced to marry a much older man. I flew through it to see how Kyra would make out and I think YAs will too!
I share lots of books and get ideas from Shelfari and love it!
Also our state reading site...www.payoungadult.wikispaces.com has lots of suggestions from librarians in PA.

I am so glad we are talking YA books!
I can't wait to check out the wiki, I think I asked to join and am waiting for approval...
On the Impossible book, I thought it was more for the Reading Olympics kids, definitely not the reluctant reader. I haven't read Double Helix but 7 years ago when I started as a high school librarian, I read Killer's Cousin and it has been a winner ever since. Our reading classes love The Rules of Survival too.
Just went to payoungadult....wiki and I am not able to view all of the titles in the doc.
It only shows sheet 1 and covers authors Abrahams down to Headley. Let me know if I am doing something wrong, I do know there are more titles because I looked at the covers and reviews and there are plenty! Thanks!
Sometimes it's slow to load and you will need to scroll over all the way with the bottom scroll bar to see the up/down scroll bar on the far right. From there you can pull down to see the rest of sheet 1. Hope this helps.
Okay, got it and I will add some titles this weekend. Are books that are not published yet also included or do they get added next year?
Please feel free to add whatever! We are looking for quality titles that you think YAs will enjoy. We bump titles over from one year to the next when necessary. We just had a meeting last weekend, 11/7, and are starting to cull through the suggested titles to compile the final list. PSLA is early this year and we need to make the final cut soon so printed versions of the lists (and possibly posters) are ready to distribute at the conference. Looking forward to your input.
I just purchased Liar and can't wait to read it! I will see if we have the one by Wliiams thet sounds great too!
Patti--I made a mistake----could you fix it---I saw I couldn't edit the wiki for YA nominations:
The book is After Tupac and D Foster by Jacqueline Woodson

Thanks!
Patty I just entered Wake by Lisa McMann and then I went to the blog where you have your entry about the nominations and the link is not working---you have wikispace as SINGULAR not plural.....so you will wnat to change that. Thanks, BJ
Patty, I just Read Liar and while I kept turning the pages and I loved Micah's love for her "missing" boyfriend, BUT in the end, I wasn't really crazy about the book. If you have ever read Inexcusable by Chris Lynch, the main character is an unreliable narrator and in the end, the reader finds out what he is like. There are so many lies and unanswered things about Micah and no one to set the reader straight, SO I just gave this book a 3 out of 5 stars, I was really disappointed because I couldn't wait to read it. Oh well. I will definitely try to get my hands on The Chosen One. Thanks!

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
