We used iMovie to produce book trailers this year with our whole seventh grade and they turned out to be amazing! I would have loved to share them on YouTube but can't publish publicly because of copyright...I would like our IT person to set up a password protected web server space so we could post them on our web site for the students and families to view. I love the idea of uploading them to your library catalog - we don't have a system that can do this presently but are moving to Destiny next year and maybe that will allow us to upload QuickTime movies - great suggestion!

A few people posted about book trailers below, and I absolutely love the idea of using those! I wish more publishers would get on board. Scholastic has a few trailers that they encourage teachers to show before book fairs to get students interested, but these previews could certainly be used any time to get students discussing new books.

You go into Senior High
Catalog
at the FIND - type in digital book talk
hit enter
all of those books that you see (historical fiction, nonfiction & realistic fiction)
click on the DETAILS button
Under EXPLORE - you will see in bold DIGITAL BOOK TALK or ANIMOTO BOOK TALK - just click on it and watch.
Remember these are student booktalks----we like Story of a Girl because it is good but also has mistakes we point out to students...to avoid when they create theirs.

Our reading students make digital book trailers after the have read a novel and rather than doing a book report or other end product, we work with the students and teachers using PhotoStory3 to create an short enticing book trailer that will hook other readers. We then upload it to our library catalog and the students can view it.

I'm quietly revising teacher independent reading lists incorporating more YA lit and removing the titles, no one really has a burning desire to read (Babbitt, The Far Pavilions, really?). I say quietly because I have to be a little sneaky about dropping the new titles when some of them aren't looking.

I used animoto for doing a short video to promote the books on our High School Sequoyah Masterlist (Oklahoma) http://animoto.com/play/207eyM14DAoSD1fnKt1SPQ?autostart=true. Hi Deborah-
I am so excited about your posting regarding "Book Trailers"- believe it or not I wasn't even aware that they existed until I read your post! I teach at a small International School in Burma and our Internet access if very limited (You Tube is blocked as are many other sites). Fortunately, this Ning is not blocked and so I am enjoying being connected with other TLs around the world.
I would love to hear from others regarding websites (besides You Tube) that post 'book trailers' and book movies. I would like to add this element to my library's website and possibily create some trailers with my Middle school kids. Thanks for posting your links!
