Hi! We barcode each magazine and circulate that way. We have a sign up sheet for staff and my assistant rotates them to those who sign up.

Hi carol,
I'm a teacher librarian & recently started a community based blog for getting boys to read - http://GettingBoysToRead.com. Please send me a friend request if you'd like to network, share ideas, and learn more about getting boys to read.

Sincerely,
Mike McQueen

I am a little old fashioned. I have zip lock bags and a sign out notebook. We are a small school and do not have a huge selection of periodicals. Only 5th graders can check out magazines. The sign them out using the notebook.

To check out magazine I buy a box of manilla letter envelopes in an 8 1/2 by 10 size. I make temporary barcodes to go on the envelopes and scan the envelope
that the student will put the magazine in. In my system, Alexandria, you are able to type in a name for the temporary item and I type the magazine name, title of that month's issue, year and month.
Example: Odyssey Tornados July/Aug 08
