SLANZA conference - intersections and collaborations

I have just come back from 3 really buzzy days in Wellington enjoying the amazing knowledge sharing that occurs when school librarians get together. Awesome to hear Ross Todd and Pru Mitchell talking about information literacy in a Web 2.0 world. So challenging when you work in a school where the majority of teachers are still coming to terms with information literacy let alone Web 2.0!

Hi Clenda,
I'm a teacher librarian & recently started a community based blog for getting boys to read - http://GettingBoysToRead.com. Please send me a friend request if you'd like to network, share ideas, and learn more about getting boys to read.

Sincerely,
Mike McQueen

That's great - it really lifts us in the eyes of staff when we dare to present to them. We use Moodle and find it great for e-learning although I find it doesn't present the library the way I want it to. We are changing our library software from Alice to Oliver and are hoping that the front page of Oliver will be more appropriate for the students - looks more like what they are used to, we can link EPIC onto the front page and put lots of library info on there also. That way, when the students go to Library from Moodle, it looks as though they are going out to an external webpage that looks more familiar than the Alice WebOpac and Moodle links. Make sense?
I would love to see anything you have from the Head of History's presentation if he is happy with that. We had whole staff PD on information literacy all of last year - led by library and reading departments. It was a challenge but very worthwhile.
