What is the name of your school?
I have always loved libraries; in fact I used to arrange my Golden Books on my bed and make my mom check them out using a card system. I have worked in public libraries and for the past 15 years I have been the library tech in an elementary school . This is my first year as the library tech educator in the building. I am in the Teacher in Residence Program, along with starting the SLIL masters program at UCD, so I think I have a busy, but hopefully exciting year ahead.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 29 years, who still makes me laugh, and we have two terrific adult daughters. I was lucky to be born into a big, loving extended family that surrounded us all with a lot of support, which I hope we have passed on to the next generation.

Hi! Thanks for the comment. Yes, the picture is from this summer. My daughters and I visited my Mom in Hawaii for a month, while my husband was busy working and we (the girls) had plenty of time before starting school. This week I start my Master's, next week one daughter starts kinder, and the following week the other daughter starts preschool!
It sounds like you may be even more busy than me, though. Hopefully we can help each other have a great first class.

Hi Darcy

I wanted to let you know that MIT is running a nationwide, online contest to get kids to teach other SAT/ACT vocabulary through the power of user-generated flashcards. The goal is to build a resource that is free and fun to use. There will be a cash prize at the end and iTunes giveaways along the way. The event is hosted at Brainyflix.com, and full details are here.

If you know of any teachers/students who'd be interested, please let them know!

Thanks,
Jack

Greetings Darcy,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
