Venturing into high school libarianship...

Profile Information

About Me:
From August 2004 - October 2008 I was the librarian in a primary school, with grades K-2, on a fixed schedule. I taught 30 classes per week in my library; I was teaching only 25 minutes less per day than the classroom teachers! All of my time was spent teaching and prepping for teaching, and there was no time/energy left for the library work that needed to be done. All because the teachers needed their prep time [which I do understand].

Now, in my private Catholic high school, I have a flexible schedule, and can actually maintain my library AND teach! Amazing! The library has been neglected for a long time and there is so much work to do, but I just love it.

How was your first full week, I am exhausted and frazzled. Next week, we start library orientations for the 10th grade English classes.

I'm a teacher librarian & recently started a community based blog for getting boys to read - http://GettingBoysToRead.com. Please send me a friend request if you'd like to network, share ideas, and learn more about getting boys to read.

Hi, Tiff

I have just joined this network and am looking to connect with people who know about or have an interest in children's picture books. I am especially interested in finding out more about what teacher/librarians have to say about the availability of picture books that can be used by teachers to support values education.

If you want to know more about me, or be my friend :), please pop over to my page.

You're right, we do have a lot in common. Did you say whether you're at a private or public school. I'm not on the ning very often, so it would be good if we could exchange emails. Can't remember whether it's posted on here, but I can send you mine in a private message if you like.

I came to a district that spent way too much on magazines that kids weren't reading. While I still have some teacher selected titles, I decided to dump a bunch of the very subject specific and start getting titles kids would read. I sent a message t…
