Great to see you online Ann! I think you'll like the Ning environment. The software is robust (and free). I chose this space because Joyce has done such a good job at pulling together the key community I'm connected too: library media specialists.

I'm hoping to leverage the content at the http://21cif.imsa.edu site to energize a social community and kindle that self-sustaining communication makes a group work.

I've also got an e-learning and online teaching group on another ning called Classroom 2.0 It's been a slow grower and is aimed at providing some community for the certificate program I'm advising at Stout.

See you online!

Ann, communities are hard to establish, especially if you're just working with single classes. I leave a discussion thread in place for ongoing collaboration in the d2l environment, but it doesn't go far.

I'm more hopeful for the e-learning group on Classroom 2.0 (another NING that you can now easily join because you're a member here). When folks go through 5 classes together they build deeper bonds. (Both Datta Khalsa and Kay Lehmann are former classmates from my first masters program.)

See you online!

Thanks for the comment about the ICCA video, Ann. I really didn't do anything, though. Animoto.com is extremely easy. All you do is upload your pictures and choose your song (yours or theirs), and the computer does the organizing and rendering. It's ready in less than five minutes. It's free unless you use more than 15 pictures. Joyce Valenza shared the site at ILA during one of her sessions. It really could not be easier.

Ann, this is exciting. My presentation at AASL is on Designing Online Learning. I would really enjoy communicating with you. What courses do you teach? I am semi-retired which only means I do not teach full-time. I have been teaching in the Professional Development Studies program at Rutgers University since last fall. I have visited the Stout web site and greatly admire the program. Will you be attending AASL this week? Marjorie

hanks, Ann. I haven't had much time with this because I am teaching two classes and participating in "23 things on a stick" to learn more about web 2.0 tools. One of my online students started a NING so that got me going. There certainly are some familiar faces here!

Greetings Ann,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
