White House Petition

The National Forum on Information Literacy recently submitted to the White House's We The People petition website a petition on the critical importance of information and digital literacy training for our students and our workers in the 21st century.

We need 25,000 signatures by February 13, 2013 supporting the petition in order for the White House to submit an official response.

We would certainly appreciate your support on this initiative...Will you sign it? Please visit…

Support for teacher librarians

The teacher librarians in our district are starting a school library support/advocacy group.  While researching other groups on the web I noticed something.  Most of the groups discuss ways to strengthen the library collection, sponsor events, etc., but they didn't talk about advocating for adequate teacher librarian staffing.  Is there any information available on successful strategies that have been used to persuade administrators to restore teacher librarian positions?

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012

In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.

The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair ckeller@mansfield.edu
