TeacherLibrarianNetwork

A community for teacher-librarians and other educators

Forgive me if this has been discussed before (I'm sure it has!)

I'm teaching a 2 day 'tech camp' for school librarians this weekend and I'd like to share with them what people find are their most used/most helpful 2.0 tools.

Also hoping some of them will join this group!

Thanks a bunch.

Diane, Thanks so much for the feedback. The K12 online conference is terrific isn't it. Haven't had enough time to follow everything that's going on there, but so much useful info.

Polly,

That's one of the joys of asynchronous conferences/discussions - lots of PD material for long winter evenings, listen and reflect at your leisure!

Animoto! What fun that is. I spent a fun hour creating some little videos. Thanks.

Hi Polly,

I have been busy with National School Library Day (NSLD) and Library Month in Canada so I missed responding to this post in time but I might have a few resources for future reference. I was at a Colloquium for NSLD at the University of British Columbia last Thursday and two reference librarians presented some of the work that they are doing with web 2.0 technology..

Here are the links:

And from School Libraries in Canada (SLIC)

Hope some of these resources are helpful.

Buffy, thanks for the input. Love your "unquiet" blog. What a lot of great content. Will your podcasts be showing up on your blog?

My most helpful tool is imagechef.com. I am terribly graphics challenged and this makes all my newsletters and other communications shine.

I do like wikis a lot too. There are so many uses for them - with students and as a collaboration tool with classroom colleagues.

Good luck with your tech camp presentations!

Thanks Connie! That's a great resource. I should use it to spiff up my class handouts and such.

I like wikis. They're collaborative, and teach students how to communicate in writing. I'm wrapping up my first wikiproject now. (http://bookbird.wikispaces.com/Careers+Wiki) Definitely a learning experience, but rewarding still.

Does anyone know of a site with "safe" graphics? I was trying to teach about copyright and creative commons, but flickr is the only site I know. Even in the safe search mode I get some questionable hits. I already have to override the filter just to get there. I don't want the admin taking away my privledges... Suggestions?

Hello bookbird103,

FreeFoto is a site that I have used often. You should take a look: http://www.freefoto.com/index.jsp
