Our state dept of ed website has information about library media programs AND the Priority Academic Student Skills which include information literacy standards K-12. Search www.sde.state.ok.us and look for PASS objectives for everyone, and use the curriculum link on the left side to find Media. As far as what to do with your current teaching and library visits. Collaboration works both ways, and requires relationship to begin. Talk with your librarian and ask for services. You might meet resisitance but you can practice fighting such resistance even before you become a media spec. Tell the LMS what you are doing in your classroom. Ask for activities that are easy to do in the library but also fit your classroom objectives. Offer to develop ideas alongside the librarian. Teachers instigate collaboration no matter where they find the classroom.
It will be fun and exciting. This work takes a lot of energy. The thing I can't figure out is this... If I spend so much energy every day why can't I lose a little weight? Hahaha! Keep laughing as you work because laughter increases your energy and I hope you have a very busy media center!!
