I am a media specialist at Olathe East High School and have worked at all levels of public education, K-12. I am national board certified and work as a liaison for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and Kansas national board networks. I am looking forward to using podcasting with students to build interest in and appreciation for our fiction collection. I am a Ph.D. student in Library Science through Emporia State University's School of Library and Information Management program.
Hi Lori- yeah. I've really found a great personal learning network by using twitter (btw- @ pgoerner) When I need something fast- they respond sometimes within minutes. Hey- I started a new discussion about Teacher librarian best practices. Would love to hear your comments! thanks! ~phil g
Ah Yes, two favorite classes of graduate students. I remember being anxious to complete similar classes. I have been busy too with 5 conference presentations in the last month. They were well received but it does require a lot of preparation.
I am in the process of getting the next issue of SLIC ready for publishing online. My offer to you of publishing any article based on your research still stands. If you would like to have an article published please send it to me.
I hope your studies and classes are going well. I miss academia and I feel the need to jump back in soon.
Lori,
I have enjoyed reading your posts. I'm very interested in the mood of your media center. How do you actually manage/monitor, etc. the technology that you have?
Great idea about using the podcasts. That is something I was thinking of trying also, although I'm thinking now that I might do "Voicethreads" for student book reviews now. Joyce Valenza recommended the site on her library blog, and it is really exciting! My brain is on overtime thinking of all the creative things I want to try next year using the Voicethread site. Check it out: www.voicethread.com
Thank you. I was looking at yours last night. I love that students have created these reviews. My next project is having students read their book reviews aloud and broadcast their podcasts for other students to access. I know kids respect other kids' opinions on books.
