Best Books Lists!

YALSA has posted my favorite list of the year -- the 2010 Best Books For Young Adults! And I can't wait to jump into my second favorite list -- the 2010 Quick Picks For Reluctant Young Adult Readers! It's going to be a great weekend! Woot!

Thanks for the link to this list. I've been so busy I had forgotten these were being announced. I took a quick look at the top 10 of the best and only recognized two of the authors and none of the titles, so I need to get busy and do so more serious reading of YA books. I'm a K-6 librarian so I don't get as many YA books read as I want.

I like NYPL's Stuff For The Teenage 2009, too...I especially like their categories: The Undead, Girl Drama, For Guys, etc. -- I might start using some nontraditional labels in our own library. "Great For Guys", "High School Drama", "LOL Funny"

Have any of you read any of the books? I've read none on the reluctant young adult readers list. On the Best Books list, I've read Going Bovine and Liar. Loved both of them!

I have read some of the books and love them---I blog on Goodreads about any book I read and some I ut on this Ning and I honestly did not like Going Bovine or Liar. I hate saying that because most of the time I love all the books I read....With Going Bovine, I thought I was on drugs the whole time I read it and with Liar, once the werewolf part came in, I just had a hard time really liking the whole premise of the book.

I can see Liar. I found it very readable, but strange. Of course, Bovine was really strange. But it worked for me :D The funny thing is that I gave it to my 14 year old to read first since I was in the middle of something else. I was about 15 pages into it, when I asked her what she thought of it and she blurted out the ending! Darn kid. Maybe I liked it because I so enjoy a good road trip book. Which ones did you like best? I'll look for you on Goodreads. I've been using Library Thing and am not as familiar with Goodreads. How are you listed?

I am listed as bjneary on Goodreads, so friend me. When I get into school tomorrow, I have the lists printed out---I had library aides see which ones we had (those were the ones I read) and then I decide which other ones to order, so I will let you know. I do aLOT of booktalks to the reading classes which are the reluctant readers so I am always reading realistic fiction, urban fiction and multicultural fiction to hook them in my booktalks. But I love any kind of genre.

Laurie Halse Anderson's Wintergirls flies off our shelf! Students are taking out the Drama High books, Just Another Hero by Sharon Draper is the 3rd and final book in the Jericho series and it is a nail biter! If I Stay by Gail Forman was so sad, but so good. I just loved Shiver by Maggie S and Response by Paul Volponi flies off our shelves (it is about a hate crime) ---so there you have my favorites!

I'm working on them...for some I have to wait until I can get them back from students. One title that isn't on the list (which is surprising since it was a Booklist Editor's Choice) is The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness, the second book in the Chaos Walking trilogy. I tore through the first book, The Knife of Never Letting Go, in a couple of days, and was glad I already had the second, because there was no way I was going to be able to wait for it. But now I don't want to finish the second one, because the third won't be out until September!
