I have proposed to my principal the benefits of an open flex library. Currently I only "teach"
k-2, and that is a connect time or resource time for teachers to have their planning. I feel like all I am doing is checking books in and out and have become an AR station. The technology is practically closed to me. This is my second year here and the librarian's aid had taken over the role of "technology" when the old librarian was here. My predecessor wanted nothing to do with any type of technology integration (up until 5 years ago, she was still using a card catalouge...yep) So, now that I have come along I am seen as an intruder by what I know is my library assistant, but what she considers herself to be the tech teacher. My Principal LOVES the idea of a flex schedule because he also sees the lack of information skills being taught. The only issue is the lack of "resource" teachers. If he takes her out of the classroom and puts all of k-5 with me, than the open flex time will not happen. Please offer ANY suggestions with this particular problem of lack of man power. With as many schools losing the fine arts, we are fortunate to have those teachers in place, but I don't want to be seen as "just another time filler, or spot for teacher planning" Thanks!
