Literary Glogs

glogster.edu is a website that allows users to develop visually appealing portals which allows you to link audio, video, web pages, and text to the visual poster which is called a “glog”. This is a nice opportunity for teachers to be able to create a home for all projects related to a particular unit. The following are ideas for teachers to include in literary glogs. We often ask students to include some projects that are required to be on the glog while some projects may be a la carte (such as pick 4 of the following 10 choices)

I love your examples of glog applications in literary classes. Would you mind sharing some links to some of your glog projects? I would love to see some examples of your students' work. We've been using glogs a lot this year. My teachers have asked for some suggestions for new glog projects. Your suggestions are wonderful.

Thanks so much, Jan! We had so much fun creating the lessons! My other favorite way to use glogs is to create a portal for all of the resources used during particular projects - a new way to do a pathfinder - it's so cool - I can embed it right onto our website and the students go to it. We have started working with glogs as well in our school. I created one with a focus on 21st century literacies (http://hennesss.glogster.com/21stLit/) as a way to share the tool with teachers. I took a powerpoint presentation about 21st century literacies and transferred the same information onto a glog. Presenting them side-by-side allowed teachers to see the differences and get a better sense as to how glogs could be used for creative presentations. I'm impressed with your resource portal; you have inspired me to update my webpage using glogster.

I love how you combined glogs with .docstoc for students to be able to add the writing and link it through html! I've been using glogs a lot this year, but my students have been using lots of text boxes on the screen. I like your idea better. Now I have a new twist!

Yay!!! I was really in a bind and needed to make the linking text happen - I had sold the idea to the teachers and wasn't going to let it fizzle!

This will solve our "Works Cited" dilemma. We created citations on the glog, but they were difficult because of hanging indentions, no italics (unless you wanted the entire citation in italics), and no quotations marks. We used double appostrophes, etc., but they were very difficult. I also loved your idea about using quotes from within the book and writing about the quotations. Glogs have been the most successful Web 2.0 application I've used with my teachers. Thank you so much for sharing.
