A community for teacher-librarians and other educators

Hi everyone,

I am new to this Ning. I looked at past postings to this discussion topic but thought I would request more input. I am a district elementary librarian at 3 elementary schools. I have weekly 30 min. classes with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The librarians in my district are currently working on a library/media program that supports the district/state Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies curriculum rather than a separate Library curriculum. We are using AASL Standards and 21st Century Learner guidelines. We definitely need to collaborate with the classroom teachers in our schools in order to complete this project.

Besides information on our library Moodle (including an online collaboration form) and inservice at the beginning of the school year does anyone have any other ideas that we could use to make this happen?

Hi, Valerie, Something that you might add to your moodle are specific ideas or collaborative lessons that you find that would enhance what they already teach. For instance, here is a link to a collaborative lesson that would support our 3rd grade immigration unit in the socials studies curriculum. http://informationliteracy.org/plans/view/280/back/6 I am working on a list of examples for each grade level to share at the beginning of the year. Also, I have found a couple fun quizzes about 'collaborative style' that would be fun to add to the moodle.
When I find the links to those, I will post them for you! Happy 4th of July! Rosemary
Thanks Rosemary. Great idea and link. I will share it with the other librarians. Valerie
That sounds like a neat idea - would you tell me how you set us how you set it up?
