TLNing (teacherlibrarian.org)

A community for teacher-librarians and other educators

The charge of our committee is:

“To scan the 2.0 environment for effective participation by AASL, develop guidelines for and create an AASL 2.0 presence, and make recommendations for its continuity.” (www.ala.org/aasl/committees.html)

According to my official notification, our appointment begins July 1, 2007, and ends at the adjournment of Annual Conference 2009. I spoke with Sara and she believes we can get started whenever we want. I believe we can do a large part of our work online.

We can use this space to start our discussions. Let's get started by brainstorming.

What are your 2.0 strengths and interests?

What are your ideas for creating an AASL 2.0 presence?

(BTW, should we make this space private or allow visitors?)

Hi Joyce and all,

I hope you see this response, as I just caught up with this conversation.

I want to fall on the side of Chris' position. I too would like to see the shifts you both suggested and the ideas he presented. I was disappointed that the shifts were not more evident in Reno.

Lisa's involvement in Second Life is amazing at the school level, but so many of us are not there yet. Even if we are becoming adept at using web 2.0 tools, Second Life is just that, a second or even third life for us. To me it seems like it would be a huge leap to go directly to Second Life without passing GO to some of the other web 2.0 tools that we don't seem to be using yet.

Just a note, Nings have been blocked in my district up to now, but when I was reading your blog on SLJ today, I clicked on the link to this ning, and it opened! Hope springs eternal. When I read what you were talking about here, I decided to comment. I would like to see AASL come up with practical strategies for overcoming filtering of web 2.0 tools and convincing our districts that we need to use these tools to be effective with our students today.

Janet
Hi all,
Sorry, if I seem to be missing in action. Since I am so far behind most of you, I have been working on tring to catch up, by using School Library Learning 2.0: an online learning program for CSLA members and friends. Its an online learning program, with "23 things", which are divided up by weeks, with activities and projects. CSLA is California School Library Association. http://schoollibrarylearning2.blogspot.com/

This will give me an opportunity to learn, what you all already know, or at least speak the same language.
An online tutorial like this may or may not be a good jumping off point for our committee.
