TLNing (teacherlibrarian.org)

A community for teacher-librarians and other educators

I have created a private network on Ning (crunet.ning.com) for our high school students and faculty to use for fun and instruction. I am wondering which of you have done this and how it is working. So far, we have mostly
teachers of Latin and Chinese using it for instructional purposes. Spanish and art are about to create groups. A lot of kids are enjoying it as a safe place to connect with their friends and classmates for fun and discuss assignments. I have it set so that I approve photo and video uploads until I am assured that kids are using it appropriately. Joining
is voluntary and not even half have joined. Any experience with using a social network in your schools? What are some innovative ways teachers are using it?

Hi Barbara,
I haven't used this yet but I have been considering doing so at my school. I am interested in following your process and how it works out at your school.

Do the kids connect for general socializing or only for assignments? Please tell us more! Were they previously using other social networks?
