A community for teacher-librarians and other educators

Has anybody seen this job description? I feel like it's the first time we've really seen an organization re-envision the school library in a new way.

This job description really focuses on the Big Picture of the job, not cataloguing or citation or other specific skills.

Your thoughts?

Director of the Center for Inquiry and Exploration

Maret School, an independent K-12 school in Washington, D.C., seeks a dynamic leader to assume leadership of an innovative programmatic initiative, the Center for Inquiry and Exploration. This newly-created Center seeks to infuse current research methodology into all aspects of our curriculum, concentrating especially on Grades 7 through 12.

We seek an administrator with a strong understanding of the changing and evolving roles of libraries and information systems in the 21st century and a clear and compelling vision for how Maret’s facilities and faculty can more effectively train students in current research and inquiry practices.

The Director of the Center will:
•Serve as the School’s primary educational leader on questions of research and information management;
•Oversee information services, including the libraries, at the School;
•Provide curricular leadership by creating resources and exemplary programs and by modeling expert pedagogical practices;
•Collaborate with faculty in integrating the programs and practices into the School’s curriculum;
•Train faculty in current research and information processing techniques and inform faculty of professional development activities that are available off-campus;
•Act as a liaison to other area independent schools to foster dialogue about current methodologies and best institutional and educational practices;
•Manage off-campus partnerships with local universities, NGOs, and research facilities;
•Pursue other appropriate projects as directed by the Head of School or her designates.

The successful candidate must have excellent speaking, writing, and teaching skills and should be comfortable working with faculty of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and technical expertise. A Bachelor’s Degree is required; advanced degrees are highly desirable.
