I am taking my first class towards my IT/ Media Specialist degree. I am feeling really overwhelmed. There is just so much to learn and keep up with. I am really interested in learning more, but I feel like that I may never learn it all. Is it like teaching, where you do not learn it all until you are actually doing it. I almost feel like that maybe I should have had some experience in the field before I actually chose the degree. I was just wondering if it gets better as far as learning all the new things. I just think that this field includes way more than people realize.

I think that it is a great field to go into, and a very exciting one. I am excited to learn all the new things.

I agree....yes, your first year as a library media specialist will be crazy and overwhelming. Find a librarian mentor if your district doesn't assign you one. Someone to ask questions when you need to know something and to bounce ideas off. That person will be a lifesaver when you get overwhelmed or confused. I'm in my second year as a school librarian, and I had NO library experience at all before I got my degree. This is also my first at full-time hours, and I'm just now getting on my feet so-to-speak....because every library is different, you kind of just learn as you go. It is a LOT like teaching in that sense, too. Relax and enjoy! It's an excellent field to be in!
