I am doing some research on social networking in libraries. Has anyone set up a NING for students to use? If so, have you had success with them? What social networking sites, if any, are your students allowed to use and access from your library? Should they be using them? Any comments or thoughts you have will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kelly

I have my library aides (Library Science students) set up Google Docs accounts and Delicious or Diigo accounts. I have also used Animoto.edu and Glogster.edu with them. No problems except that Glogster still allows chatting with the educational side and had to set limits with some of the students with that application. I will not introduce until late in semester this year.
Unfortunately our district does not allow Facebook or Flickr. We are trying to get Facebook for Reading Olympics since students don't use email anymore. But for mow we just use a wiki for Reading Olympics.
