I am currently a grad student at UHCL working on my master's degree in SLIS. My undergraduate degree is from Texas A & M University in Elementary Education with a reading specialization. I have taught in Bryan, College Station, Arlington and now Houston, Texas during the past 20 years!
I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.
If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
I'm currently a graduate student also, but I am at Mansfield Online working on my master's degree in SL&IT. I am really enjoying the learning process after so many years in the classroom. Technology is fantastic and I can't wait to transition into the library. Presently I am teaching 9th English/Language Arts and have taught in the VIrgin Islands and Maryland for 25+ years. I am hoping to complete my graduate degree in December. I started a blog not too long ago, so I welcome any technological advice from the group.
