I am the teacher librarian at a ridiculously large Gr. 8-12 high school in Langley, B.C. I am presently on education leave to complete a Master of Education with a Teacher Librarian focus through the University of Alberta. I am very interested in learning more about Web 2.0 technology so that I can work with my students and staff to incorporate technology into instruction. I am also exploring the new literacies of School 2.0. I am an avid reader and relish any opportunity to connect a student to a book.

Greetings Joanie,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Hi Joanie,

Fancy meeting you here. I have been busy the last few months on other projects but I have been posting information and adding my two cents worth to discussions. Welcome aboard.

Hey, Joanie! Fancy meeting you here! And all our other classmates, too. Are you, like me, taking advantage of our "reprieve" to take more time for this week's blog post?

he he - I am getting around aren't I? So far I haven't been able to do much more than introduce myself and look around a bit but I'm already convinced that the Ning is the thing for educational settings.

p.s. - Good question you asked about web 2.0 add-ons - I'm watching that discussion threat closely too!

see ya' around,
Rhonda
