I have been a LMS in a public school for more than 12 years. Technology integration is a strong part of my teaching, but children's literature is my true love. I participate at the local and state levels within my profession. It is my good fortune to work with a fantastic group of local, district librarians. Our professional learning community has brought good things to our programs. Our district has a new web provider. Visit my new and ever changing webpage for my school library.

End of another year...

I'm just not yet into the habit of blogging. I tend to "talk" more in person and believe me I have lots to say.

This year I enjoyed the company of a new 1/2 library assistant (first time ever at my school) as well as the invaluable services of a 1/2 to full-time volunteer. It was like the library had a STAFF of 3 people.

We enjoyed greatly increased and enhanced library programming. I think our best efforts were in the PR realm. We made displays, showcased books for… Continue

Year end... how is your mood?

Yesterday was my last day for the year, and it certainly ended in a rush. I repeatedly told teachers it was fine to keep whatever they needed until the last school day. Wow, when they did that it was great for relationship building and making them feel welcome. However, I didn't think about all the books that would show up needing to be reshelved. Whew!! Foolishly I thought I would end the year with things all neatly put away, and that would be a first. No, that didn't happen. I don't mind at… Continue

Greetings Lisa,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

I can't understand why some are only friends and only you and me joined the MPS Berrians group. The YA thing is one of the discussion or one of the groups. I'll check

Lisa, how many of us berrieans are in our group? I only show you and me, but Bendee and Cherri and Kris are my friends. Why aren't they in our group? Where is the YA discussion? I've read and even replied to several discussions, but can't find it. (Can't type either). I tried this line 3 times. I did find best book this year and boys list. I did a little copy and pasting.

Please keep us posted about your change of job possibilities. As one who moved on several times during my teacher-librarian career, I can testify that working within a collaborative community with a principal who shares power makes ALL the difference!

Hi Lisa!
Welcome to the BCC Group. I poked around on your Web site. I noticed you have planning time daily! Do you work within a fixed schedule?

I look forward to learning more about your work through our discussions.

Best,
Judi
