My first blog post

Having attended the Building Learning Communities conference two weeks ago, I've determined that, while I'm nominally in charge of technology at my school, I am terribly naive about social networking and what it means to my students. My experience with MySpace has been mostly attempts to see what our students are doing/saying on their pages. At the same time, our school blocks MySpace. I'm beginning to see a disconnect between what we (the school) teach, allow, and encourage and what our…

Greetings Lisa,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Hi Lisa,

It's great to hear from you. I imagine the new libraries are fantastic; I remember the Lower School was slated for remodeling soon after I finished at Drexel. Please post some photos on the Web site!

I hope all else is well with you. I'm expecting a little boy in late March, so I imagine my world is going to turn upside down very shortly. Do you still travel to DC? Was it for a choral group?

Take Care,

Laura

Hello again,

Thanks for responding so quickly! I knew it was a long shot, but I thought it wouldn't hurt asking. You kind of look like my teacher. But then again, that was about 25 years ago! Thanks again for responding. Have a nice day!

Hello Ms. Snyder,

I was wondering if you were ever a teacher in El Monte, California? If so, I was one of your students. Could you please be so kind in letting me know if you did. I would appreciate it. Thanks!
