Greetings Michelle,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Hi Michelle,
Yeah, I skipped CAL this year. I was feeling too overwhelmed with a myriad of responsibilities here including trying to get a ballot issue passed that I couldn't even think about planning for being absent. Also, I didn't see any sessions that looked particularly interesting. How was it for you? Did I miss anything that I should go get the handouts for?
I was disappointed to miss seeing you, Laura and other librarians.

I really enjoy teaching the yearbook classes and the 8th grade tech isn't bad but I find it hard to focus on library stuff. I'm glad that you are enjoying your job! We do need more of our old classmates on here!

It's been so hectic these last couple of months that I think I would have gone berserk if we still had homework and classes! I seem to have overcommitted myself- imagine that- and then was added a new class to teach on top of that. How's your year been?
