I am the new librarian at Cathedral High School Library. CHS is a Catholic high school. I am new to the school library, my background is in acedemic and public. So, I'm a newbie to this and have lots to learn and lots of questions. I think this forum will be good for me. There is a lot to be done here to improve the library. I also want to improve the library's web site. Oh, so much to be done and so little time. Sue French

Weeding

Hi,

Quick question. Does anyone use Winnebago/Spectrum for their catalog? If so, when you take books out of the system, do you have to choose "weed" or can you just delete? In every other environment I would just delete the item. Here, the library assistant has chosen the "weed" function which keeps the items in the system as weeded. Greetings Sue,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen
