CMEC Pan-Canadian Literacy Forum

Hello everyone,

On Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday (April 13th to the 15th) I was at the Council of Ministers of Education of Canada (CMEC) Pan-Canadian Interactive Literacy Forum in Vancouver. This was a rather unique experience in Canada. Educators, learners and literacy providers from West to East and into the North were gathered together to discuss themes such as Aboriginal Literacy, early literacy and workplace literacy.

Since we were meeting by webcast with people… Continue

OSLA/OLA Superconference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Hello everyone, I had the opportunity to attend the OSLA/OLA Superconference in Toronto, Ontario last week. It is considered to be one of the best librarian and teacher librarian conference in Canada. Mother nature threw us a major snowstorm of 20+ cm on Thursday but we managed well in the conference centre. I was present at two important launches while I was there. A group from the Ministry of Education in Ontario and the Ontario School Librarian Association have just tabled a draft document… Continue

Some Positive News in the Press

Hi everyone,

I came across this article in the Grand Rapids Press. It describes librarians as thus:

"Today's librarians are high-tech information Hardy Boys and Nancy Drews, masters of mining cool databases and wizards at "wikis" -- a Web site or other online resource that allows users to edit content -- as well as social networking Web sites such as Facebook and MySpace."

The CLA Conference in St. John's Newfoundland.

So much for promises to write during the conference. I discovered that being the new president of the Canadian Association for School Libraries meant that I had a lot of meetings and social gatherings to attend. This is rather late but here are some highlights.

The CLA Conference in St. John's Newfoundland.

Hello everyone,

The Canadian Library Association's Annual Conference is in St. John's, Newfoundland. That is as far East as this Vancouverite can go in one day in Canada. It will require a 9 and a half hour plane trip to get there. It will be worth it since it is a great opportunity to meet fellow school librarians as well as librarians from the other 4 divisions within the CLA.

As I go to meetings and sessions, I will keep you posted on interesting information and data… Continue
