Copyright friendly image list

"My" teachers have been complaining about not having access to high-quality images without scrounging around for hours on the web. So I put together this wiki of copyright-friendly image sources. Also a long list of historical political cartoons, which the history teachers appreciate. Feel free to use it! Or add anything! password is opensesame4

Beta Test for Yahoo

The new job has really usurped all the time I was spending blogging and reading on the web. I'm slowly starting to get back into the swing of things, though.

Just a head's up for anyone who is interested. Yahoo is looking for beta-testers for some super-secret new tool they're working on. I was a beta-test for the new Search Assist tool they use; it was fun and didn't take much time. Anyway, they want more librarians, so if you're intersted, here's the link.…

Blatant Self Promotion!

If I can advertise myself a bit. I'm currently doing a series on creating documentaries in the classroom over on my blog. I provide a link to ALL my handouts, which should be a good resource to give your teachers.

Actually, on second thought, I'll just upload them here, (one of those Duh! moments!). Still, the blog posts give detail/background, and are too long to cross post, so I hope you'll check it out!

Beyond Blogs and Wikis: Online Tools for Collaboration

I just wrote a post on my blog talking about some great online collaboration tools I've found, that I think will work very well for students doing group research projects. Would be very interested to hear your comments/thoughts.

Great Resources/Websites

I've been collecting online resources and sharing them with students in my info lit class. It occurred to me today they might be useful for people on the Ning, too. Though I'm sure you already know many of them. Anyway, here they are, if you're interested!

Zentation

Has anyone else seen Zentation? I've been watching a couple of the presentations on it, wondering if it would be useful for the classroom, when I realized how powerful it might be for anyone trying to create a Library 2.0 website. Basically, the site is a mash-up, and allows you to post video that syncs with a Power Point. I'm wondering if it would work to tape yourself teaching a group, say, database searching, then post the video/PP, and link to it on… Continue

"Everything is Miscellaneous"

I bought Weinberger's book the other day, though admittedly it's still sitting on my shelf, waiting for me to read it. However I did spend a good part of the morning watching his discussion on Google Video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2159021324062223592) , that I highly recommend. What he has to say relates directly to a lot of our concerns and ideas regarding Library/Web 2.0, with strong implications both for education in general and the LMS in specific.… Continue

Library 2.0, Part B

I've been reading articles on virtual libraries and making the virtual library space as cozy, comfortable and inviting as the physical space. I've also explored several impressive examples of best practice and "borrowed" some great ideas. Having mapped out the schema for the website, before I starting writing content I thought it would behoove me to organize this wealth of information into some sort of hierarchical set of principals to guide the development. I was talking to my Info Lit prof… Continue

Library 2.0

As I've studied this year and, more recently, read Joyce Valenza's blog about library websites, I've been thinking about the implications of Web 2.0 for both libraries and education. I always saw myself as pretty advanced along the tech integration pathway, at least compared to other teachers in my school. I used list-servs and webquests and digital storytelling/documentaries as a regular part of my classes. I even had a (fairly disastrous) foray into podcasting. (grin--nothing in Egypt is ever… Continue
