Greetings Fran,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Thank you so much, Fran. What a kind gesture on your part! I look forward to becoming more active in this community as I have just joined.

And I have just looked at your profile...very similar to mine. I am 53 today and just completed my add-on in Library Media/Instructional Technology. Now looking for a position.

Happy New Year to you!

Hi, Fran! I know you are relieved to have finished your MLIS. I haven't been spending as much time on Myspace lately, but have a facebook page now. We will be finishing our school year on June 6 (report cards), so we still have a little more time to finish our inventory. We have started it, but were waiting for our final due date to do fiction and manga. I hope you have a great summer!

I can see the Light! Over the last 18 months I have completed 24 hours of the certification program and am finishing up the practicum this spring, so on May 12th (Officially) I will be done. As all of our work must be turned in by April 19th, that is the unofficial celebration day.

Hi Fran, that is so great that you are already in a library! Do you have teaching experience? I am doing it all backwards and getting my MLIS first and then going for the teaching certificate. But soon enough I can be endorsed as a Teacher Librarian.
