"Where do we go from here? I suggest inquiry units where the teachers and media specialist collaborate! My 4th grade students chose their own topics, are now researching the topics, and will create posters to use to teach 3rd graders about their…"
"Hi Frankie, Tell me more about Peter Johnson's book! I have been trying to be much more purposeful in my language as a teacher. For example: "Tell me more..." What led you to that idea?" Why do you think that?" etc.…"
"Hi Beth, Thanks for your comments. The unit, Writing about our Reading, has pushed my students in ways I never dreamed 4th graders were able to think about their reading. A really cool outcome of that writing unit is that our book clubs have…"
"It seems like to me that our authors are not expecting kids to think like experts. I think the authors are hoping to inspire teachers to expect and inspire more out of our students. Ellen Oliver Keene changed the way I look at students by letting me…"
"Thank you, Donna, for your comment. I agree. The lack of collaboration between teachers and librarians is often a lack of time. In my district (I am a fourth grade teacher) we are bombarded by new mandated curriculum every year, large class loads,…"

I am a fourth grade teacher. This summer I attended the Reading and Writing Project at the Teachers College at Columbia University. It was an amazing experience! The workshop method of teaching writing is powerful. (I am married to a librarian!)
My name is Derrick Barnes and I am the author/creator of the new hit SCHOLASTIC book series, RUBY AND THE BOOKER BOYS.
Please visit my page to learn more about me, the series, the rest of my books, and most importantly how to invite me in to present Ruby Booker and her family to your students.

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Mansfield University Scholarship Program – Begin in January 2012
In an ongoing effort to recruit a new generation of school library leaders, Mansfield University recently received a fifth Institute of Library and Museum Services (IMLS) grant to fund scholarships for its totally online School Library & Information Technologies Master of Education degree program with school library certification. If you know of an educator or non-certified librarian seeking school library certification, please pass along the news that we are still accepting applications for the spring 2012 semester.
The Master of Education program, ideally suited for working educators
with no time to drive to a university, offers a convenient and effective path to school library certification. For detailed information and contacts please refer to the Fulfilling the Promise homepage, at http://libweb.mansfield.edu/promise/, or contact Cynthia Keller, Department Chair email@example.com
