My high school librarian used to completely cover discarded books with solid-colored paper (as if it were gift wrapped) and place a message on the front of the book indicating the location of the book(s).

Can you help me think of a good, cheap thingy to use as a book dummy? I am going to shelve some of our fiction series in another place (for space sake) in our elementary library, but need to put a dummy on the shelf to direct users. The best I can...

We have 'Series Boxes' for the simpler series, aiming at students who are stepping up from picture books to simple chapters, like Rainbow Magic, Boyz Rule, Magic Schoolbus and so on. They are labelled - example is for Rainbow Magic - SB/F/RAI (Ser...

With numbered series, it makes sense to shelve the books (e.g. snicket) by their number in the series. Especially when the numbers are displayed on the spine and there is an order; such as Animorphs, Harry Potter, etc.

There was some talk a bit ago here on the usefulness of shelving fiction series separately. For those of you who do this, can you explain the criteria you use to determine which sets are separated from the main collection? Do you then shelve them ...

Our kiddos love SI for Kids, Nick and Dog Fancy, too. Zoobooks, Disney Princess, Cat Fancy, Young Rider and Dirt Bikes are really popular. We tried titles like Discover, Spider, New Moon and Cobblestone, but they just never left the shelves.

I'm wanting to upgrade our magazine collection for our K-5 school. What magazines do you find the students most enjoy and want to see?

I've heard that my friend Shutta Crum's THUNDER BOOMER has been getting stars all over the place. I know and love her, but it really is a good book!

Two years ago, my teammate and I dressed as thing one and thing two from Cat in the Hat. We wore red sweats, with a white sign indicating whether we were one or two and then, of course, sprayed our hair blue. Another fairly easy idea is Miss Viola...
