TLNing (teacherlibrarian.org)

A community for teacher-librarians and other educators

Launched at its annual conference in October, AASL's new standards are not our mother's information skills objectives. http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/learningstandards/standar...
These sophisticated standards will help ensure that our students enter college and the workplace with the skills and attitudes to succeed. Interpreting a few of the standards may prove somewhat of a challenge. Let's work together to suggest explanations, strategies, links, tools, and anything else to help us integrate the standards into our students' course of study and extracurricular lives. I have set up a wiki so that we can do just that. Study the standards and see what you can add to help others connect and use them successfully. The wiki is available http://21stcenturylearner.pbwiki.com/
(The password is learner and you may need to click on sidebar to see all the standards links).
26 librarians at the Hill Country Librarian's Conference in Austin worked during a very short session to offer some suggestions. It may be fun if we get together in groups to work on it. Of course, you can work on it in the privacy of your own home in your PJs, also!
I think among us we can make a full brain on this thing! :)

Are these AASL standards for k12 or 6-12 or ?
They are K-12, I believe. I suppose you could add PreK. I think they are for all school library levels.
Barbara, I found your wiki for the standards--great idea for making the standards more "real."

(I added a few comments and shared it on twitter as well!)

Great seeing you on Friday!

and, Hello Durff!
It was good to see you, too, Carolyn. Thanks for working on the standards. I think together we can make a set of strategies that we can all use.
