Can anyone offer some suggestions for some of the best books for K-5 published in 2009 thus far? I'm on a very limited budget and would like to purchase some tried and true titles.

Thanks!

Sue, have you looked in the librarian magazine - 'Book Links' ? I also order from Junior Library Guild and they only send the newest and best to you. Try those, let me know if you hit dead ends. TJ
Here are my hot titles right now. Some you may or may not have heard of:

He Came with the Couch picture book
Series... Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Artemis Fowl, Warriors, Ivy + Bean
Mysterious Benedict Society (1 & 2)
Half-Moon Investigations (a little older, but my current fav. detective story!)
of course, The Graveyard Book
All cats have Asperger Syndrome (c2006, but great!)
Couldn't keep Hugo Cabret on the shelves this year... again...
Other Graphic Novels - Jellaby, Amulet, Bone, Babymouse

I liked Wednesday Wars, too, but just can't "sell" it many of the kids.

I've heard that my friend Shutta Crum's THUNDER BOOMER has been getting stars all over the place. I know and love her, but it really is a good book!
some new titles that are going like hotcakes in our library...

1. that new animal by emily jenkins
great picture book about the arrival of a new baby

2. olivia kidney by ellen potter
