Hi everybody,

I am starting my 2nd year at a very small, Quaker boarding school in rural southeastern Ohio. Previously I was a cataloger at a public university. I am about to switch offices, and need to decide what to do with a good size collection of LPs. That's right, vinyl records. They are not being used; do I try to sell them, or just dump?? Research commencing, suggestions welcome!

Hi folks,

I'm trying to solve one of those "I can't remember the title" mysteries. It's a children's book and this is the description I was given:

"I read this book when I was a kid back in the 70s or 80s. As far as I can remember, it was an Asian folktale illustrated for kids. The main character was either an old man, or maybe a monkey? Whichever it was, the main character was trying to eat, but this devil/ghost was on his back and kept moving the man/monkey's hand into his (the devil/ghost) mouth. The one trying to eat couldn't figure out why he was staying hungry. There were illustrations--picture book format."

I have NO idea what book this is. It seems really obscure! If anyone knows, I'll be amazed once again at the Collective Librarian Brain!

Thanks! :-)

Shawn,

I would love to post my request as a discussion forum, but I have no copy of what I sent.  I'd rather not type it up again, so if someone would please email me the message I sent to the group, I'd be happy to put it up.

Thanks,  Barb E

In response to Barbara E.'s request re: shared Middle/Upper School Libraries, what about "recreating" the bridge from the Middle school to the Upper school within the library? It's probably too early to start looking at furnishings, but have you heard of "Big Cozy Books"? They make really fun sturdy furniture aimed at youth collections: http://www.bigcozybooks.com/  I think older students would like this stuff as well!

Barbara, can you post your request for info as a discussion forum entry? That way, threads of info can be shared among all members.

Hi Andy - I think your site will be helpful to students and a good model for other school librarians.  I had to Zoom Out to see the whole page in both Firefox and Win Explorer. Didn't try it in Chrome or Safari browsers.  Not sure why I didn't get a scrollbar to enable right/left scrolling to view entire page - maybe an HTML thing? Then again, perhaps it is time for me to visit the optometrist or buy some "cheaters" -

Andy,

Great website! I especially like the book trailers and plan to use these this spring with my MS students.  Thank you for the link.-BJP

Hi, everyone!
I am working on a Web 2.0 tools blog that I hope will be something you can use and share with others if you are affiliated with a Christian school. I am probably reaching out to "the choir" if you are members of TLNing, but I thought I would share with you anyway. Please take a look! www.kytelight.com
