Hi, everyone!
I have gathered three of my students who are becoming Web 2.0 saavy and we have created a National Library Week project that you can participate in. Freeze-n-Read 4 Libraries. What began as a simple NLW project for our school has grown into a library advocacy event with worldwide potential. Can you help us by participating and getting the word out through your Twitter, Facebook and other social networking channels? Libraries are essential for student success and healthy communities and the welfare of society. I'm not sure we all know just how important a role we play. Libraries freely provide help and information to everyone...and they are in crisis. We can do some very simple things to help raise community awareness. Our website, www.freeze-n-read.weebly.com explains the simple process (Promote, Freeze, Get Involved) and brings together in one place links to "cool" and "chilling" facts about libraries along with a page of effective ways to bring about change. We include a blog to gather information about libraries in crisis, flyers and bookmarks to print, a photo gallery for "Freezers" and a poll to document participation.
My students participated in the first ever Junior BarCamp here in Fort Myers, Florida and they now have a glimpse of what can be done when we creatively use technology. This is one application that I think is simple and worthwhile. Please participate and help us get the word out. If you have any suggestions, please email us. I am a relative newbie at this, but we all need to become "Fabrarians" (see the website) in order for libraries to endure.
Please ask your colleagues, friends and family to Vote 4 Libraries on the website and Freeze-n-Read in some way during National Library Week and continue the involvement throughout the year ~Sincerely, Kathy Adams and the Freeze-n-Read Staff
