Greetings Ann,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

It's from poets.org and an English teacher suggested it. Basically, we'll just copy a bunch of poems, cut them up and pass them out. Kids are supposed to ask others what they have and read them. ? I'm not sure how it'll work. A couple of the MS English teachers are interested in having poems read through the PA system. I'm just doing one poetry reading. Where's your poster from--very cool--did you make it??

Hi Ann,
On the author news front: I went to Hong Kong a couple of weeks to see Markus Zusak, author of the Book Thief. He was wonderful--very casual, funny, and unpretentious. The students in the audience loved him. Unfortunately, he doesn't make many school visits anymore--he says he doesn't need to.
What are you doing for Poetry Month? I'm doing a poetry reading and 'A Poem in Your Pocket.'

Hi Ann,
Wow, this is a very cool group! I'm not quite ready to take the plunge yet but am gathering info. I will go to the sites you mentioned and daydream a little though.
Thanks!

Hello Ann! I do not know Dianna Pratt. Is she at Singapore American School? I am at International Community School in Singapore. Our school is the only international Christian school in Singapore that teaches an American curriculum. I hope to go and visit SAS to get to know their librarian so that we might do some things together. We were in Beijing two years ago for a visit and loved it! Good luck!!

Hi Ann-

Greetings from The International School Yangon! I just joined this Ning recently and was happy to see an international teacher's group- thanks for getting it started!

One of my colleagues, Marianne Johnstone will be joining you in the library in Chennai next year! I am sorry to be losing her as a colleague and friend but I am sure she is heading to a grand adventure!

Looking forward to sharing ideas!
