Greetings Ann Marie,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight. If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Hello Ann Marie - Welcome to TLNing and I hope you make many good friends here.  It is a way of bringing the world together and I am from Yorkshire England.  I didn't know that next year is International Year of Reading.  I have done something which should really help the world of reading.  I write poems with rhyme and with rhythm for children and as you will know, this helps with the development of phonological awareness.  I'd love you to try some of my poems in your classes.  You can get to my website by just Googling JOSIE'S POEMS.  Do come and say hello in my guestbook.

But do tell me what special ideas you have in your school for International Reading Year?  Are you doing anything special.

Best wishes and nice to meet you.  Josie

Thanks BJ that's what I'm thinking. Considering that next year is International Year of Reading, I'm hoping to tap into what is going on out there. Thanks for message.
