Hometown:: Howell, Michigan and upstate New York

Name of Your School / Library / Organization:: I'm a middle school librarian. Right now it's 1st hour and, to my left, a group of eighth graders is using biographical encyclopedias--via databases and in print--to research Latin American notables. Oddly, they're stone-cold quiet.

It's still early...

To my right, seventh graders have taken over my office to use it as a podcast studio. They're recording vintage-radio-show-style mysteries that they've written. Every once in a while I hear a funny sound effect.

So why am I here? I don't really know yet. I'll warn you though: I plan to steal your brains.

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.
