Books Abound conference trading cards

Hello;

I and six of my peers are hosting a regional, annual conference for librarians and teachers on the joys of liesure reading, called 'Books Abound', October, 2007. We anticipate 125 attendees. As an icebreaker we thought trading cards would be fun. Collect a set and win a chance at a prize!

But trading cards are a little harder than first thought. A set of 12 to 16 cards might be nice, on a literary theme, character, etc., but no such animal, to my limited research exists…

Greetings John,

I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.

If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Mike McQueen

Thanks for the comments. So far, I have received very positive response. Most of the librarians that have seen them seem to be in agreement on the issues brought up. My district librarians will see them this fall. Edgy? Yes, that's my intention. I think most of the librarians in my district would agree with you as far as "that's the way I
operate."
The past three years I've done science videos for my school and various other video related projects. The results can be found on "Teachertube."
Hopefully the videos will promote discussion among our district teachers and librarians.
Thanks!
