Greetings Liz,
I'm Mike McQueen, teacher librarian and founder of http://www.GettingBoysToRead.com. Like many school districts, we are in a financial crises. Our school board recently proposed to eliminate ALL 20+ middle school teacher librarians and also cut all 90+ elementary schools to half time. Since we are the biggest district in all of Colorado, we worry this will cause other districts to follow suit. We launched an online movement and are going to do our best to put up a good fight.
If possible, please visit our Facebook page and "Like" us http://www.facebook.com/SupportSchoolLibraries . Adding a positive comment and sharing with your friends would help our morale as well. The board finalizes the budget soon so your timely support would be greatly appreciated!
Sincerely,
Mike McQueen

Thanks for creating the cool Ning! This is so much better than a wiki. Great idea!

Sorry I won't have a chance to see you at AASL this week. I had already gotten administrative permission to attend before I got the Internet Librarian postcard. I wish I could break the laws of physics and be in more than one place at the same time (or have one of Hermione's time gadgets and be able to go back). I have had some roadblocks but still hope to pursue National Board certification.

Thanks for the invitation to be your friend. I'm in the middle of packing for the AASL conference this week in Reno. My anticipation is building as I get ready to attend great sessions, tour the exhibits and see friends. Then in a few weeks I get to do it all again at CSLA. This kind of experience really keeps me going for the rest of the school year. Now this Ning provides professional support and ideas in another format!
I hope to see you at one or both of the conferences.
Ellie
