Using some sort of Electronic Sign In to Library

Hi,

 

I'm toying with the idea of setting a computer up near the front entrance of my high school library to use as an electronic sign in and an information display.

 

Currently we have a handmade sign that is boring and a clipboard for students to sign in.  I'm thinking of creating a Google Form for students to use to sign in. 

 

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?

Ok. I got the PPT, but I am still unclear as to how you use Destiny to have students sign in and out of the library.  Do you use the Circulation Tab whe they scan their barcodes on their name badges? Or do you use the Check In tab within the Circulation Tab?  It's Monday and we are doing Grad Exam testing all week so forgive me for operating with half a brain today :(

Look at my powerpoint- you use the REPORTS tab. Choose PATRONS, then at PATRON LISTS, you choose PATRON NAMES, there is a drop down SELECT box and it defaults to name but we use the drop down and choose BARCODE LIST.  Then the students just scan their IDs and the system counts each student.  When you want to run a report- go to the bottom of the page and choose RUN REPORT.

Nikki, Hi, the students only scan in, if they leave, we urge them to take their ID and scan back in.  I told someone earlier- I can't remeber who--that we have Tech that shuts our system off and we have to log back in if there is INACTIVITY--so we were losing important information.  So just for scanning purposes, we use MOZILLA.  We then open up Destiny in Internet Explorer.  That way, we can tab back and forth and not lose any information betwen the students scanning in and hopping off to check out books, etc.

OK so I went back and here it is:

In Destiny click on REPORTS Tab- choose PATRONS

Click on PATRON LISTS- choose patron names (then select by BARCODE LIST) but if you don't use that you could keep it at NAME But you would have to ask each student their name.

As each student scans their ID, it adds how many are coming in.  When you go to the bottom to RUN REPORT, it puts the student names and barcodes in.  We staple it and put it with our days information.
