I am planning on making the switch from 2nd grade to library after this school year.  Anyone else make a similar move to this?  Any advice?  I'm a little nervous about passing my Praxis certification exam, so any advice or hints for that would be welcomed, too!  Thanks!

Hi Aubrey,

Go for it! I was a classroom teacher for 17 years when I made the switch! I have never regretted my decision on second! I love this job! As far as the Praxis is concerned take the practice tests over and over. I used the book to study and I think I even did some online tests.

I have made the switch from grade 4 to middle school library during Christmas break. I wish it had not been at the mid point of the school year, but the previous librarian retired. I've spent a lot of time during the break doing some much needed cosmetic updating and getting to know the library. I plan to made gradual changes in regards to how the library is used. Advice would be great! Thanks!

Congratulations! You have made a fantastic decision, my opinion of course, but I speak from experience. I was a classroom teacher for 14 years, first, second, and third grade and then made the big move. I have been a librarian for six years now and love it. Great advice from a previous responder regarding taking the practice exams and practice online exam. You could be hired prior to completing that exam. Do you have an idea of where you would like to be? Are you looking to move within your district? If people know you already that gives you a jump on new hires. Also you have had the experience from the teachers perspective. Read library journals online and investigate the your states school library association. Best of luck!
