Kindles in the Library

My library has 33 Kindles - don't ask where the $$ came from, because I'm just not sure :) I was wondering if anyone had them and if so if you had a policy/procedure on how you check them out. Also, does anyone have an easy way to catalog the books that are on them?

Does your library database have an virtual bookshelf? I use Destiny and Follet has a virtual shelf and that's where ours are stored. I'm not sure if we can add to them from another source. Where did the books come from? Amazon?

We've been ciculating 6 Kindles for a few months. First, we have the students take home and have signed a permission form that we adapted from Buffy Hamilton.  Then we add an asterisk to thier name in Circulation so that we know they have permission.

We use Mandarin, so I just created a simple resord for the Kindles (Kindle#1, etc.) and in the 300 tag (description), listed the books downloaded on it.  I also went into the records for the print books (like "Mark of Athena") and added the Kindle in the holding.  That way, when studenst are looking for a title on OPAC, the print edition comes up and any and all Kindles that the title is on will show up too.

Don't know if you saw it when I posted awhile back, but I've also got a list of e- books that are available for free at the middle school and high school level.  I cross-checked reading lists I found online with e-books in the public domain and made two nice charts:  Public Domain E-Books
