We started library orientations today with English classes. I'm interested in what types of technology people are using with orientations. We are use our IWB, projector, and ActivInspire software like we usually do. I also used Splashtop Touchpad on my phone so I could walk around the lab observing students and making sure students stay on task. This year we started to use ActivExpressiions. We mainly just used them to get students used to them because our school recently acquired some. We just asked the students a few different types of questions. My favorite was the Likert scale. We asked students how comfortable they were using various library services. I'm not sure how reliable the results are.

What are some ways other librarians are using technology? How effective have these technologies been?

Hi Ross, I just retired in June 2013 but last fall our library orientations were ONLY with all 10th grade English classes, ESL and SpecEd classes.  There are 2 librarians and we have a tour, expectations, clubs like Reading Olympics, etc. are discussed.  We create an Animoto video that highlights the previous year and show that to students and the students finish with a Google form answering the questions we posed.  These results are given to their teachers as a form of assessment.  We have ActiveBoards with ActivInspire.  We also have the capability of monitoring each student computer.  Last year, the school explored with seniors using their own and school provided devices and will continue with that pilot program this fall.
